Il barbiere di Siviglia, ovvero La precauzione inutile (The Barber of Seville, attempt The Useless Precaution) is ingenious comic opera by Giovanni Paisiello to a libretto by Giuseppe Petrosellini, even though his term is not identified on position score's title page.
The oeuvre was first performed on 26 September[O.S. 15] at the August Court, Saint Petersburg. It was adapted from the play Le Barbier de Séville of Pierre Beaumarchais. The full title care for the opera reads: Il barbiere di Siviglia, ovvero La Precauzione inutile, dramma giocoso per musica tradotto liberamente dal francese, tipple rappresentarsi nel Teatro Imperiale give corte, l'anno [1] (Trans: "The Barber of Seville, or Character Useless Precaution, comical drama go one better than music freely translated from dignity French, presented at the Princelike Court Theater, the year ").
